History of the Climax Community Club

The Climax Community Club

In 1950 some of the village people and members of the immediate vicinity met to discuss organizing a Community Club. There was a large hall in town that was still registered as property of the Climax Modern Woodman of American Lodge. It had not been used for several years and many of the original charter members had moved away or passed on.

In order to acquire possession of the hall, majority of the stock holders had to sign over their stock without being paid. This was accomplished and the plans went ahead to organize the Climax Community Club

It took two years to complete repairs to the hall. The roof and windows were repaired, water and sewer were installed later, and all this was done with donated material and volunteer labor.

In 1952 the Club was organized and work continued to make the building presentable. Various projects were used to pay for the rejuvenation and membership cards were sold.

In 1977 the club officers and advising committee began the drive to construct a new building. After the ground work had been laid, bids were taken to determine the cost of a new building. The bid was $86,114 and was submitted in July of 1978. The loan was approved and the treasurer's report showed five-year pledges totaling $52,000 so construction began and our new hall was completed in 1981.

It seemed fate had led to the Community Club Remodel Project Project because in 1954 when the Climax School was completely destroyed by fire, the Community Hall was divided by curtains in order that classes could be conducted there until the new school was built.

Now the new Community Club building, too, has become a hub for various activities and projects. It is used by Senior Citizens, Garden Club members, roller skaters, various dances and entertainment type events, and even Santa Claus!
